Strengthening the Role of Cadres and Village Midwives to Support the Cervical Cancer Awareness Movement in Puhu Payangan Village, Gianyar, Bali, Indonesia

Cervical cancer is the most common type of in Balinese women, and cervical patients came advanced condition. The health survey conducted village Puhu, Payangan, Gianyar, found that coverage screening 12%, which considered as low. Payangan’s sub-district centers (Puskesmas) have made an effort to give free PAP smear screenings local community, but it still has not received a good response. This related community’s lack knowledge on cancer, low awareness screening, false stigma about examination. To overcome this problem, needed increase need for by shaping into cervix movement "Gardavi", involving midwives housewife members Empowerment Family Welfare Group (PKK) Puhu Village cadres. Methods are used community service include training midwives, activation tiered information system midwives-cadres provision well motivating event done role cadres actively participate their region, therefore, may outcomes lower mother morbidity mortality numbers due cancer. results increased midwives’ skill technique sampling independently, visits Community Health Sub-Center (Pustu) examination, creation midwives-cadres-community coordination system, independently playing active do cadres’ optimism.
